Dark, Menacing, fuzz-rockers This Et Al have decided to call it quits after their epic final
release The Figure Eight EP. [The announcement appeared on June 19th - Ed.]
Cracks had been forming within the band in past years, relationships had broken down and ultimately
the band had become unworkable! Anybody who has played in a band for any length of time will be able
to empathise with the immense strain it can put on relationships. It is a shame, as judging by their
myspace comments they were dearly loved by fans and will be greatly missed!
On with the music though, This Et Al have a dark, empowering style in keeping with the typical
Leeds approach of epic, post-rock influenced music. With a twinge of sing-along indie at times, this
EP will have appeal with the mainstream and the underground. With fantastic vocals throughout, and a
vocal range akin to Matthew Bellamy, the exceptionally tight band create experimental, surreal
music that doesn't lose pace and stays grounded by cement strong drumming.
As far as a standout, it's a toss up between the beautifully arranged title track Figure Eight,
a short, catchy, thunderingly heavy track that'd scare your grandparents half to death but would be a
pleasure to see performed live; Or perhaps the surreal instrumental (The Tale Of) Frosty Jackson?
This rock symphony builds up and down and is reminiscent of Schism by Tool. With perfectly
executed musicianship on all parts and the addition of some piano make this track is a masterpiece.
It's a sad thing to see such a talented band packing it in, although they assure us to watch this space
as new projects will undoubtedly emerge! An excellent EP, with only 500 made visit onthebonerecords.com
