This is a fabulous, homegrown compilation CD that presents the listener with lots of excellent
bands from the Wakefield area. Within these 18 tracks such genres as rock n roll, blues, spoken word,
folk, hip-hop, soul and indie are covered, so whatever your inclination is there should be something
you fancy. Despite having such a broad variety of artists/tracks every nothing seems out of place, all
the tracks flow in and out well and the order is well thought out.
Admittedly there are a few tracks I didn't rate, but one man's treasure is another mans trash,
especially with a compilation of this nature. There are a lot of fantastic, really distinctive
artists on this compilation so I'll choose to discuss them instead. The first standout was It's
Only Been A Week by Skint n Demoralised whose style is like a Yorkshire Mike Skinner with a
Twang overtone to it. This track is a simple heartfelt track about falling head over heels for
a girl within a week. It doesn't take itself too seriously and will bring an infectious smile
to the face. The next Standout would be It's Over by Action!Action!Action! and sounds like it's
come straight out of a 60's recording studio. With a raw Kinks, Rolling Stones vibe this track
rocks on. 3Demonz have created one of two best standouts with Heart 4 Life. This is a bluesy,
soulful track with hip-hop and sensual female vocal. With excellent backing band these guys make
you want to dance. The best track on the EP has to be unlucky track 13 and The Bundesrats offering
of Nervin'. With a heavy metal, brassy ska sound and brilliantly insane vocals The Bundesrats never
fail to deliver the good with their totally unique style of writing. The two tracks either side of
this song are great too with the beautifully executed melancholy piano led song by The State of
Georgia and I Feel Great by The Passing Fancy. This song sounds a bit early Dylan-esque combined
with a tad of Cockney Rebel and is an amusing sarcastic song.
There's a lot of positive stuff to say about this compilation EP, and as at least £1 from every sale
goes to The Samaritans it's well worth buying it.
