What you've got to love about this CD is that it's full of surprises. With the tracks almost melting
into each other, you're taken on a Fantasia-like adventure through sadness into euphoria, whilst dropping
into the mainstream before voyaging into unchartered musical territories - then doing it all over again.
So what sort of sounds are we hearing on this? Well, we've got soulful, elegant pop with elements of
classical music, folk, rock and much more, tied up with a mysterious Icelandic vibe, which let's face it,
will always intrigue us Brits.
In terms of musicianship this is perfectly coordinated, beautifully arranged music that takes real skill
to craft, but somehow doesn't seem pretentious in the slightest. With fabulous instrumentation topped off
with lovely sensual vocals it's a definite winner.
That said, this music didn't grab me instantaneously if I'm honest. Around halfway through the album, possible
on the laaarvely Goodbye July, I was hooked though, and have since listened to this CD lots of times.
Listening to this music is like walking through the countryside on a beautiful late summers day, knowing
that the weather will turn soon, but being satisfied with the present.
What a band. What an album. Hopefully Hjaltalín will go far.
