Wakefield doesn’t immediately strike me as the sort of place where there’d be a bedroom music revolution taking place. However, the amount of stuff we get sent through from various indie labels in Wakefield is astonishing. All running in the quirky, experimental and sushi-raw vein, it’s fantastic to see such a devotion, and passion towards the underground scene.

Geek Pie III is another little gem from this prolific town. Arriving in a hand made, and hand painted CD cover, you can see the character this compilation has before it even makes it into your stereo.

The Whippets kick things off with the rugged assault on rock n roll that is Film + TV. With thrashy guitars, heavy drums and impressive group vocals, this track jerks and twitches its way through a very loud and very brash three and a half minutes.

The Passing Fancy change the vibe like a transvestite changing clothes on a Saturday night as we take a turn towards folk. This reminiscent track reflects back on the all the silly things we do, but makes light of it all in a jolly sing along styled track. I really loved the old-school feel of Escobarred and would probably put it as my fave on this compilation.

In keeping with the theme of this compilation One Day After School completely change things yet again with some electronic beats and some dark synths, carving a brilliant path for Still Looking At Clouds. This cheeky electronic number pays privilege to some fantastic lyrics, spoken like a conversation straight to the listener. Talking of the people and events that have shaped his history The Frog Next Door mentions Liniker, Gazza and Jarvis Cocker on his insightful quest.

To enjoy this CD you will have to use your mind like a parachute - fully open! This is a strange blend of totally unsuited music that complements each other amazingly.

Floating in a peculiar puddle a long way from the mainstream, this won’t be everyone’s brew, but will be treasure to some.
