Silverseed

Three reviews in one - how's that for value for money! (It's also why this review contradicts itself - ed.)

Hmmm... make the guitars slightly janglier and you'd have The Smiths. A 3-piece band: vocalist is also lead guitar; drums; bass. First tune (shoot it up) is from the new EP - an excellent bit of social commentary. By the third track I'm thinking this band are incapable of writing a bad track - a bit Placebo-ey now. They seem to be generating potential singles, one after the other. As so often happens [supergrassy now] the one they call the new single isn't the one I'd have chosen, but that's life. Aha, now a truly superb faster one, reminds me of the Hives somehow - the guitar probably... Like Placebo only better. [Hands over] Like Nirvana/PJ Harvey only worse [Wot?! Never]. There int many bands I like but Silverseed are one of the best in Sheffield (apart from 1600e, of course). Early Manics meets the Buzzcocks. "Are you having fun? The next one's called Grief" (at least, that's what I think he said). On to the last song, Amsterdam, and the bass player's coming into his own ... aww, he's slowed down again, not fair. Erm.... they seem to be doing a rather unique cover of The Wurzel's Combine Harvester song. Encore! Encore! [And they gave us one, too, with a second rendition of the single - and this time I reckon I *would* have chosen it.]

A truly enjoyable performance, from a truly great band. Look out for 'em!
